FVBS Mtg-Oct 10, 2026

I am excited to announce that the details are officially set for our upcoming workshop featuring Chris Baker, Curator of Bonsai at the Chicago Botanic Garden!

Here are the key details for the day:

  • When: Saturday, October 10th | 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM (Lunch to follow)

  • Where: N1678 Winter Court, Hortonville, WI

  • Weather: Rain or shine (we will be working inside the garage)

Workshop Guidelines & Preparation

  • Tree Limit: Depending on turnout, plan to bring one or two trees to ensure everyone receives quality time and guidance.

  • Prep Work: To maximize Chris's time with your tree, please do your prep work in advance:

    • Pluck needles, clean out crotches/uppers and lowers, and remove dead foliage so branch structure is visible and ready for styling.

    • Note on Tropicals: While October is not the right time for heavy work or styling on tropical species, Chris is happy to evaluate them and discuss design plans for next spring/summer.

  • What to Bring:

    • A camp/folding chair (seating is limited).

    • All working materials needed for your tree (wire, tools, bonsai soil/pots if repotting, etc.).

    • (See attached email from Chris for additional notes on seasonal suitability for various species.)

Lunch & RSVP

Following the workshop, the club will be providing lunch, including an assortment of sub sandwiches, chips, and bottled water.

Please RSVP as soon as possible so we can finalize the sandwich order and get an accurate head count.

Looking forward to a great morning of bonsai!
